The aim of this thesis was to evaluate the effectiveness of different synchronization
protocols to improve pregnancy rates in cows with calves. A total of 3 experiments (E) were
performed. In the E1, 801 cows with calves were used in nutritional anoestrus and the effect of
treatments with Co - Synch 5 days, combined or not with eCG, were evaluated, with a double
dose of D-cloprostenol injected at the same time of removal of the device (DIV) and TAI 72
hs. later. The control group was treated with a conventional treatment with estrogen salts,
progesterone for 8 days + eCG injected at its withdrawal, and TAI 52 - 56 hours later. In this
E, Co-Synch 5D (26.8%) made pregnant less than the other two (P <0.05); Co-Synch 5D +
eCG: 46.3% and Control (54.5%). These last two did not differ (P> 0.05). E2 the same
protocols as the previous experiment were used, working with 184 cycling breeding cows (2.4
± 04 body condition). In this E there were no significant differences (Co-Synch 5 D: 61.7%,
Co-Synch 5D + eCG 65.1% and Control group (49.2%). In E3, 203 cows with calves were
used, in nutritional anoestrus, we worked with a control group (no treatment), and two groups
with progesterone, estradiol salts and a group with eCG. The day of the retreat, the cows
entered in natural service (NS) with a 5% of bulls. Pregnancy diagnosis was made on days 43,
71 and 128. The eCG improved (P <0.05) pregnancy (43.5%) in the first 7 days of SN
compared with DIV (19.4%) and control (12.2%) groups. It is concluded that: the use of Co-
Synch 5D used in cows in nutritional anoestrus results in lower pregnancy compared with the
traditional treatment. However; this is remedied by adding ECG. In cyclic animals, the Co-
Synch, 5 D behaves in the same way as the traditional treatment, whether eCG is used or not.
The addition of eCG at the removal of the DIV improves the pregnancy rate obtained in the
first days of a natural service.
