Abstract
The selection of planting date (FS) and genotype (G) are the management practices with the greatest impact on yield and industrial quality. The high frequency of environments with water table in the Pampas area of Argentina, presents an opportunity for growers to minimize the gaps between potential and water-limited yields. The objective of this work was to analyze the eco-physiological basis that determine yield and grain quality in soybean genotypes of different cycle length grown in different thermo-photoperiodic environments resulting from changes in FS. A field experiment was implemented during 2015-2016 at a site with a water table (Monte Buey, Córdoba, Argentina). Five soybean cultivars (GM III short to long IV) were planted in six FS (between 09/30 and 12/01). Yield variation among treatments was explained by changes in the number of grains per m2. The FS, the interaction G*FS and the G, explained 85, 3 and 1%, respectively, of the variation in yield. Eight of fifteen G*FS combinations exhibited maximum yields (5160 to 6056 kg ha-1). Oil and protein percentages were positively and negatively associated with yield, respectively. Combinations of FS*G that located R5 around the first and second decade of January maximized yield since they generated a prolonged duration of the critical period and placed under environments with moderate temperature, long photoperiod and high level of incident solar radiation.
