This PhD Thesis aims to understand how the Pedagogical Content Knowledge (PCK) of preservice teachers can be strengthened through disciplinary subjects in initial teacher education. The guiding question of this research is: How is the PCK of preservice teachers strengthened through a disciplinary subject when it is designed based on research findings in science education? To address this question, the methodological framework provided by Design-Based Research is chosen. The design under investigation consisted of a didactic reconstruction of the Electromagnetic Phenomena subject in the third year of a Physics Teaching program at a teacher training institute in the city of Córdoba. This PhD Thesis provides evidence that the experience of taking the subject designed based on research findings in science education not only enables future teachers to grasp the disciplinary content but also the strategies for its teaching.
