In this master's thesis, a theoretical review was carried out on the state of the art of
quantitative precipitation estimation using weather radars and surface
instrumentation. The technologies, advantages, problems, and typical errors are
analyzed in detail, as well as the techniques for adjusting and validating data
between different instruments. The experimental part of the thesis involved the
development of a hydrometeorological data processing library, called `HIDROMET'.
This has been developed mainly in the Python language, built on top of the Scientific
Python stack, consisting of over 75,000 lines of code and documentation. It allows
for the automated calculation of the precipitation field from the combination of data
from weather radars, automatic weather stations, and atmospheric radiosondes.
