La Pampa. Producción de soja y girasol. Factores que afectan la adopción de tecnología en pequeños y medianos productores. Enfoque cualitativo

Abstract

Los cultivos de soja y girasol son de gran importancia en la provincia de La Pampa desarrollándose especialmente en la Planicie medanosa y Planicie con tosca norte donde se concentra el 72 por ciento del área sembrada con girasol y el 86 por ciento de soja del total provincial, 201112. A pesar de la existencia de tecnologías disponibles se visualizan diferencias de rendimiento entre productores para los citados cultivos en ambas zonas que superan el 100 por ciento entre niveles tecnológicos Alto y Bajo. El objetivo de este estudio fue identificar los factores que afectan la adopción de tecnología en pequeños y medianos productores de soja y girasol en las citadas regiones que presentan situaciones agroecológicas diferentes. La técnica de grupos focales o grupos de discusión es uno de los métodos de investigación cualitativa, que permite enfocar un tema o problema de manera exhaustiva. Entre los resultados se evidencian aspectos de conocimiento, grado de complejidad en la implementación, económicas y otras referidas a contexto, en particular incertidumbre por condiciones climáticas, precios y comercialización que hacen frecuentemente que su implementación sea subóptima. En síntesis, se detectan espacios para plantear, junto a los actores del territorio, estrategias que propicien la adopción de tecnologías.

Soybeans and Sunflower are two very important crops in the La Pampa Province, grown mainly in both the Sandy and the North Clay Plains, where 72% of total area planted with soybeans and 86% of total planted area with sunflower are located. The goal of this study was to identify those factors that influence the adoption of technology by small and medium-size soybeans and sunflower farmers in the above mentioned regions, that show significant differences in their respective agro-ecological conditions. The focus group technique is one of the approaches used in qualitative research, one that allows for an issue or a problem to be addressed in a comprehensive way. Among the main results of the study, the following factors were identified as the most influential when it comes to the adoption of farm technologies: a number of issues related to the acquisition of knowledge by farmers, complexities of the implementation of a given technology, profitability and context variables, such as the uncertainty associated with weather conditions as well as with product market prices and marketing channels that may lead to a suboptimal implementation of a technology that has been already adopted. In brief, the study concludes that there exists room to think up strategies that would foster technology adoption, working together with other stakeholders present in those territories
